Description
|
Signal and image processing is a discipline at the interface of several major scientific fields. In particular, mathematics plays a key role in understanding and modeling problems, and developing the algorithms for solving them. Initially, deeply associated with analysis, statistics and probability theory, mathematical approaches to signal processing involve increasingly diverse areas of mathematics, in response to the emergence of new issues and new types of data. The goal of this thematic month is to review the latest advances in mathematics for signal and image processing, their emergence and impact on several application fields (physics, biology, bio-medical, etc.)
It will start with a research doctoral school on « Machine learning and signal processing ». The following four weeks will focus successively on these themes: biomedical signals and images, statistical processing of structured data, audio and music signal processing, adaptive and multi-scale representations and their applications to large scale data, modeling and numerical simulation. |
Le traitement du signal et des images est une discipline à la croisée de plusieurs grands champs scientifiques. En particulier les mathématiques jouent un rôle clé dans la compréhension des problèmes, leur modélisation et l’élaboration des algorithmes qui vont permettre de les résoudre. Initialement fortement associées à l’analyse et aux probabilités-statistiques, les approches mathématiques pour le traitement du signal font intervenir des domaines de plus en plus variés des mathématiques, en réponse à l’apparition de nouvelles problématiques et de nouveaux types de données. L’objectif de ce mois thématique est de détailler les avancées les plus récentes en mathématiques pour le traitement du signal, leur émergence et leur portée dans différents champs d’applications (physique, biologie, bio-médical…). Il commencera par une école doctorale sur le thème “Apprentissage statistique et traitement du signal”. Les quatre semaines suivantes porteront successivement sur les thématiques: les signaux et images biomédicales, le traitement statistique des images et des objets dérivés, le traitement des signaux audio et musicaux, les représentations adaptatives et multi-échelles et leurs applications à la modélisation de données et la simulation numérique à grande échelle.

Through the CIMPA-CARMIN program the organizers wish to fund, with the support of the Labex CARMIN, the CIMPA and CIRM, the participation of several young mathematicians from developing countries to the activities of the thematic month.
Young scientists (master students soon looking for a PhD, PhD students, postdocs) meeting those criteria and interested in the topics are much encouraged to apply for a support to participate in the CIRM Thematic Month.
