The workshop Recent progress on localization and delocalization will bring together researchers working on random operators, random matrices, random graphs, and spectral theory. Its main objective is to discuss recent advances in localization and delocalization phenomena in disordered systems. Localization refers to situations where eigenfunctions or waves remain concentrated in small regions, while delocalization describes regimes where they spread through the system. These questions are central in the mathematical study of random Schrödinger operators, Anderson localization, random band matrices, and related models.
The originality of the event is to gather several communities that study similar phenomena with different tools. The workshop will connect approaches from probability, analysis, mathematical physics, and random matrix theory. Topics will include Anderson-type models, spectral statistics, eigenfunction localization and delocalization, random graphs, stochastic operators, and dynamical aspects of quantum diffusion. The aim is to compare methods and identify problems where ideas from one area can be useful in another.
The event will have an important local impact. It will strengthen the activity of the local mathematical community around probability, spectral theory, and mathematical physics. Moreover, this workshop is also aimed at young researchers, who are expected to represent at least 60% of the total number of participants. It will also give PhD students, postdoctoral researchers the opportunity to interact with leading specialists and younger researchers in the field.
At the international level, the worksop will be part of the current momentum in a very active research area. By bringing together participants from different countries, it will encourage new collaborations and help disseminate recent results. The workshop is expected to lead to new exchanges on open problems such as the Anderson transition, delocalization for random matrices and random graphs, and the relationship between spectral and dynamical localization.
