This research workshop is devoted to the writing of a book that deals with data assimilation and its place within the mathematical framework of inverse problems. The book covers classical approaches as well as two recent ideas: nudging methods and hybrid methods that combine the variational and the probabilistic ensemble approach. The book is aimed at a broad public, ranging from masters students to doctoral candidates and to researchers and engineers working in varied domains of application.
